European Commission v Republic of Ireland re Apple: America enters the fray

It seems that the American government has applied to the General Court of the European Union (wiki) (reported by Reuters, Silicon Republic and Silicon).

Reuters reminds us that, “The decision was criticised by the Obama administration which said the European Union was helping itself to cash that should have ended up in the United States.”  In other words, the EU took cash that didn’t belong to it because the EU perceived US tax policy being too stupid to take it.

The tax war has begun.  A pointless jurisdictional spat accompanies it.  Following the “loaded gun” theme on my prior post, it feels like the EU is about to re-load the same gun and continue pummelling rounds into its own head in a continuing, but futile, attempt to find its brain.
